How Do I Know If I Need A Law School Admissions Consultant?

Not every law school candidate needs admissions consulting.

While the above might seem shocking coming from an admissions consultant, it is true. Especially in law school admissions, where much of your success as a candidate can be boiled down to your LSAT score and GPA, if you have high scores in both, you likely don’t need much help unless your writing is in need of improvement.

Where the real value of an admissions consultant comes in, is if you are targeting schools considered a “reach” based on your LSAT score and GPA.  In instances like these, having a trusted guide to navigate the process can be quite helpful. From helping you decide where to apply to editing countless drafts, an admissions consultant can add immense value if you use them properly.

Be way however of any admissions consultant promising certain results or admissions. No matter how talented a candidate or consultant is, no admission is guaranteed and so promises like these should not be made. What admissions consultants should promise is that they will diligently provide you with the guidance to craft your best application. While I can’t promise specific outcomes, I strive to do exactly this with my students and do my best to make sure they “outperform” their LSAT and GPA to hopefully secure admission at one of their top schools.

Ultimately, you should work with an admissions consultant if you feel having an experienced perspective would help improve the quality of your application. While admissions consultants primarily help with the creation of your application, they can also help provide strategic advice on where to apply/attend or how to navigate the waitlist process.
